At 100 years old, Andrew Bostinto continues to defy expectations — and gravity — by competing in bodybuilding contests, a pursuit he began 87 years ago. The centenarian, who founded the National Gym Association (NGA), still trains up to six days a week and insists that love for the sport keeps him going.

According to his wife, Francine Bostinto, who serves as NGA president, he might be "the oldest bodybuilder in the world and still training.” Francine shared the statement in a Facebook post from the association, which Bostinto leads as founder and CEO.

Born in 1924, Bostinto began weight training at 12 and went on to build a remarkable career in both bodybuilding and military service. In 1977, at 52, he earned the title of “Senior Mr. America.” He also served 29 years as an Army infantryman during and after World War II — an achievement he considers his greatest honor.

In May, just four months after his 100th birthday, Bostinto competed in an NGA physique contest in Florida, where he received top honors, a championship belt, and a trophy, according to Inside Edition.

Despite age-related challenges, including a stroke and a leg injury from his military years, Bostinto adapts his training. “I find ways to compensate when I am training,” he told Muscle & Fitness. “Even though my right arm is not as good as my left, I still do reps until I feel it on the right side.”

When asked when he’ll stop training, Bostinto replied, “I’ll stop when I stop breathing.” His message to aspiring athletes is simple: “Visualize what you want, then put your mind into it as much as you do your muscles.”
