Evie Riski, a 100-year-old resident of North Dakota, has maintained a daily journaling habit for nearly 90 years, beginning on January 1, 1936, when she was just ten years old. Her unwavering dedication to this routine has created a personal chronicle that spans nearly a century.

Riski received her first diary as a Christmas gift from her father in 1935. Since then, she has documented each day without fail, regardless of life’s demands or challenges. “There was really no excuse for me not to write in it,” she told The Washington Post, recalling even writing on scrap paper while in the hospital after giving birth.
Her daughter, Michelle Locken, emphasized the extent of Riski’s responsibilities over the decades: “She worked all the time [at a meat processing plant her and her husband ran] and raised three kids… just always go, go, go.” Despite these commitments, journaling remained a constant. “Every night she’d pull out that book and sit at the kitchen table and write,” Locken said.
In addition to journaling, Riski credits hard work, regular exercise, nutritious food, and a consistent wellness routine with her longevity. She has avoided processed foods, taken vitamins since age 18, and enjoyed active pastimes like cycling and bowling. “Keep doing your exercise, staying active, eating all the right foods,” she advises those hoping to reach 100.

Now living at the Good Samaritan Society – Prairie Rose, Riski continues her journaling tradition, often writing about her family. Administrator Anna Halvorson describes her as an inspiration: “She’s been very consistent with those things all her life.”
Riski’s story is one of discipline, love, and legacy—captured in daily entries that reflect a life fully lived.
